Embolization of Cerebral Pial Arteriovenous Fistula Under Balloon-assisted Flow Control Using NBCA: a Case Report

چکیده
rare vascular lesions of the brain. These lesions differ from arteriovenous malformation (AVMs) as they are direct artery to vein connections, have no nidus, and are composed of one or more direct arterial feeders with a single draining vein. Many of these have associated venous varix or giant venous aneurysms (1). Owing to the absence of a nidus, closure of the shunt by either endovascular or surgical technique represents a satisfactory therapeutic procedure (2). Endovascular treatment offers a simple and safe option. We present a case of a 29-year-old man with a pial AVF of the left cerebral hemisphere, which was fed by the left middle cerebral artery and was associated with large saccular venous dilation and continuous varicose venous dilatations. We successfully occluded the fistula using endovascular glue embolization in association with balloon occlusion in the afferent artery to slow down the flow within the fistula.

Onyx Embolization of Dural Arteriovenous Fistula, using Scepter C Balloon Catheter: a Case Report
We report our experience using Onyx for embolization of dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) under dual lumen balloon catheter flow arrest. Transfemoral cerebral angiography revealed a superior sagittal sinus (SSS) DAVF that was supplied via multiple branches of the external carotid arteries, the right anterior cerebral arteries, and the meningeal branches of the internal carotid artery. There wa...
متن کاملSuccessful treatment of acquired uterine arterial venous malformation using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate under balloon occlusion
We present two cases of acquired uterine arterial venous malformation (AVM) which was diagnosed because of massive genital bleeding successfully treated with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE), using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) under balloon occlusion. Balloon occlusion at the uterine artery was performed in both patients for diffuse distribution of NBCA in multiple feeding branches, ...
متن کاملPial arteriovenous fistulas: two pediatric cases and a literature review
Pial arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) of the brain are rare vascular malformations associated with significant risk of hemorrhage and neurological deficits. Depending on their location and high-flow dynamics, these lesions can present treatment challenges for both endovascular and open cerebrovascular surgeons. We present a novel approach to treat intracranial high-flow pial AVFs. A single-channel...
متن کاملIntracranial Pial Arteriovenous Fistula Mimicking a Vein of Galen Aneurysm with Hydrocephalus Managed with Endovascular Method: Case Report
Background and Importance: Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistula is a recently described matter as a rare vascular malformation occurring in children. It is usually located in the subpial space in the intracranial cavity with a high-flow shunt. Case Presentation: Authors report on a 2-year-old child with intracranial pial arteriovenous fistula and progressive enlargement of he...
متن کاملAcquired pial arteriovenous fistula following cerebral vein thrombosis.
BACKGROUND We report a unique case of an acquired pial arteriovenous fistula occurring after an asymptomatic thrombosis of a superficial cerebral vein. CASE DESCRIPTION A cerebral angiogram performed in a 51-year-old man with subarachnoid hemorrhage revealed a 10-mm ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm and a thrombosed left superficial middle cerebral vein. Coil embolization of the...
